Heart disease is the No.2 killer after cancer in Singapore. Approximately 1500 Singaporeans suffer from heart attack every year. About 30% of them die before reaching a hospital.
The common causes of heart attack are high cholesterol, high blood pressure, diabetes, obesity, poor diet and a sedentary lifestyle. These conditions could be treated and controlled if detected early.
Unfortunately many people are too busy to bother to go for regular health screening. As such we often read of people collapsing from heart attack while exercising or playing games. Some of them were taken away from this world by premature death.
Health is wealth. We should pay more attention to our well being by going for regular health screening which should include a check of our Body Mass Index, Blood Pressure, Cholesterol and Blood sugar level. The routine screening should also include an electrocardiogram (ECG) to study the electrical activities of the heart which can reveal any underlying heart disorders.
Start watching your weight, eating less, exercising regularly and going for health screening every year if you want to enjoy and active life and live longer.
Everything that you ever achieved is nothing and meaningless if you do not have the health to enjoy it.
